Excerpt from the sermon, “An Easter for all Seasons.”
“This freedom can be in any kind of society or structure. It can be in any country in the world. …This freedom can come at any place, any time when somebody walks into an empty tomb and understands it was for them. That’s what the church’s message is about. That’s the message that you and I must proclaim… there’s freedom in Jesus Christ. We can ride all the white horses of defending truth all we want to, and we can play the games that all the rest of the world plays, but …the central truth for preaching is to tell people… Jesus has made us free through the empty tomb… that is what Easter is. It is an Easter for all seasons of the year, all times, all places, anywhere, everywhere.” (Robert Troutman, 1981).

Freedom was a major theme of your dad’s ministry. Thanks for reminding me.
You were an important member of his ministry! I’ve been reading his old sermons and oh how I would love to hear what he would say about the issues confronting us today! Along with freedom, he always tackled head on, with a thoughtful perspective, the pressing issues of the day throughout the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and in our home conversations until 2009. No matter how controversial, he never shied away from an issue and kept an individual’s personal relationship with christ central.
It must have been wonderful to grow up listening to your father’s wisdom. I’m happy you have his sermons to share with us. Gorgeous eggs!
